Te mapa
Jacaltenango lies in the department of Huehuetenango in western Guatemala, in rugged country not far from the Mexican border. The town occupies a stretch of higher ground surrounded by steep slopes and valleys, so its layout is shaped as much by terrain as by planning. A central area of blocks gives way to roads that curve along the contours and descend toward the valleys below.
The town is the main centre of the Jakaltek people, who speak Popti', one of Guatemala's Mayan languages. That identity runs through local life, festivals and the surrounding villages. The countryside is agricultural, with coffee and maize grown on the hillsides, and the web of small roads and paths between settlements reflects how people move across difficult ground.
A Jacaltenango map poster turns this hillside setting into a composition of dense centre and winding outskirts. Roads trace ridges and switchbacks, streams cut down through the terrain, and the town itself sits as a compact knot among them. It is a map that feels rooted in its landscape, simple in style but full of movement.
The core of the town is laid out in short, regular blocks around a central area, forming the densest part of the map and anchoring the whole composition.
Outside the centre, roads wind with the slopes, doubling back on themselves in switchbacks that give the poster a sense of height even without any shading.
Small rivers run through the deep valleys around the town, their thin lines drawing the eye outward toward the surrounding mountain villages.

Koteā ko Jacaltenango
For the Jakaltek diaspora, many of whom live far from Huehuetenango, a map of home is a quiet and meaningful object. It also suits travellers who remember the mountain roads of western Guatemala and want something more personal than a postcard.
You decide what the title, subtitle and coordinates line say, so the poster can carry a family name, a date or a phrase in Popti'. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and order it printed or as HD files in six sizes.
