Te mapa
Jacobabad lies in the far north of Sindh, close to the border with Balochistan, on the wide alluvial plain west of the Indus. The land is almost perfectly flat, and water arrives through a network of irrigation canals rather than natural rivers. From above, the town appears as a compact, largely regular street pattern surrounded by farmland crossed by straight channels.
The town was founded in 1847 by the British officer John Jacob, and its name means Jacob's town. Today it is known for its climate: Jacobabad is regularly ranked among the hottest cities in the world, with summer temperatures that often exceed 50 degrees Celsius and humid heat that has drawn the attention of climate researchers.
A Jacobabad map poster captures this relationship between town and irrigation. The central streets form an orderly block, railway and main roads cross the plain toward neighbouring towns, and the fine lines of canals and field boundaries fill the surrounding space. It is a map shaped by water in a place defined by heat.
The core laid out in the nineteenth century shows a fairly regular street pattern, a clear imprint of its origins as a planned frontier town.
Straight canals and distributaries cut across the flat land around the town, forming a geometric pattern that brings water from the Indus system to the fields.
Main roads and a railway line leave the town across the plain, connecting it to Shikarpur, Sukkur and the routes leading into Balochistan.

For families from upper Sindh, Jacobabad is not only a line in climate reports but a place of homes, bazaars and summers remembered. A map of its streets is a clear and dignified way to honour that.
