Te mapa
Sukkur stands on the west bank of the Indus, where the river narrows between low limestone hills. Rohri faces it on the east bank, and between them the river is broken by islands, including Bukkur and the small temple island of Sadh Belo. From above, the river is the whole story: towns on each bank, islands in the channel, and bridges and embankments linking them.
Sukkur is best known for the Sukkur Barrage, completed in 1932 and formerly called the Lloyd Barrage. It diverts the Indus into a system of large canals that irrigate a very large area of Sindh, and those canals leave the river in long, straight lines visible on the map. The Lansdowne Bridge, an early steel crossing opened in 1889, spans the channel beside the islands.
A Sukkur map poster shows a place defined by engineering and water. The wide river crosses the frame, the barrage marks a clean line across it, and the irrigation canals head out across the plain. The dense old streets of Sukkur and Rohri sit close to the banks, and the islands fill the space in between.

Bukkur and Sadh Belo sit in the channel between Sukkur and Rohri. Their shapes break the river into narrower streams in the middle of the frame.
Sukkur on the west and Rohri on the east face each other across the water, linked by bridges. Together they make a balanced, mirrored composition.
