Jagādhri lies in the far north of Haryana, where the Indo-Gangetic plain starts to rise towards the Shivalik hills. From above, it forms a twin urban area with Yamunanagar. Together they make one continuous spread of lanes, markets and newer sectors, bound together by the railway and the main roads between them.
The town is known for its metalware industry, especially utensils and sheet-metal goods, which have been made in its workshops for generations. The older core is a dense tangle of narrow bazaar streets. Around it, planned residential sectors bring a more regular pattern of blocks and wide roads.
