Te mapa
Jamshedpur grew around the steel plant set up by the Tata company in the early twentieth century, following the vision of Jamsetji Tata, after whom the city is named. It was one of India's first planned industrial cities, and its layout still reflects that origin: the large steelworks at the centre, surrounded by organised residential sectors, tree-lined roads and generous public spaces.
The city lies at the confluence of the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers, which curve around its northern and western sides. To the north, the Dalma hills rise beyond the rivers and are home to a wildlife sanctuary. Jubilee Park, created to mark the company's golden jubilee, forms a large green space with a lake near the heart of the city.
A Jamshedpur map poster shows a city where industry and planning are legible at a glance. The steelworks appear as a dense block of rail sidings and sheds, the residential areas as calmer, more regular grids, and the rivers as broad curves framing the whole. It is a map with a clear story, and one that local families know well.

The Subarnarekha and the Kharkai join at the city's edge, their curving courses framing Jamshedpur on two sides and giving the poster its natural lines.
This large park with a lake near the centre was laid out to celebrate the company's jubilee. On the map it forms a broad, open shape amid the planned streets.
