Te mapa
Jinka is the main town of the South Omo area in southern Ethiopia. It sits on green, hilly ground above the hot lowlands that stretch down toward the Omo River. From above, it is a relatively small town with a few main roads, a centre of shops and offices, and residential areas that fade into farmland and forest on the slopes around it.
Jinka is widely known as a gateway to the Lower Omo Valley, a region home to many distinct peoples, including the Mursi, Ari and Hamer. Mago National Park lies to the west. The town has an airstrip, and many travellers pass through it on their way into the valley. Its weekly markets bring people in from the surrounding villages.
A Jinka map poster shows a town that feels open and loosely built. Streets follow the hills, and green space appears between houses. The roads leading out toward the lowlands and the national park give the composition a sense of direction. It is a map of a place that many people know as the start of a journey.
Jinka's roads curve over and between low hills, giving the map an irregular, organic pattern instead of a planned grid.
The town's airstrip appears as a long, straight shape on the edge of the built area. It is a clear landmark that reflects Jinka's role as a regional gateway.
Routes lead out of town toward the Lower Omo Valley and Mago National Park. They form long lines that head away from the green hills into drier country.
