Te mapa
Jwaneng was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s to serve a single enterprise: the Jwaneng diamond mine. The mine is operated by Debswana and is widely regarded as the richest diamond mine in the world by value. The town sits in southern Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari, and its name is usually translated as a place of small stones.
From above, Jwaneng looks deliberately designed. It has looping residential streets, cul-de-sacs and clearly separated neighbourhoods rather than the organic growth of older towns. Open ground surrounds it on every side, and roads lead out across the flat sandveld towards the mine and the highway to Gaborone. A Jwaneng map poster turns this planned geometry into a crisp, balanced composition.
Just outside the town, the mine is a vast terraced open pit. On detailed maps its stepped benches appear as rings of lines descending into the earth. Few landscapes connect a town so directly with the ground beneath it, and the contrast of tidy suburbs and industrial excavation gives the print an unusual character.
Curving avenues and cul-de-sacs divide the town into distinct residential areas. The pattern is typical of company towns designed from scratch rather than grown over centuries.
Just outside town, the terraced benches of the mine form a series of stepped, nested contours. It is one of the most striking man-made shapes in southern Africa.
Around the town the map is almost empty, with sparse tracks crossing flat, dry savanna. This shows how self-contained the settlement is on the edge of the Kalahari.

Koteā ko Jwaneng
Many people have lived in Jwaneng for a work contract, a whole career or a childhood, and the town tends to stay with them. A map of it records a place built for a purpose and the community that grew up there.
The title and subtitle can carry a name, a department or years of service, and the coordinates line can be edited. Pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files cost $9 and come as 300 DPI PNGs and print-ready PDFs.
