Te mapa
Kansas City sits where the Kansas River joins the Missouri, and its map begins with that confluence. The downtown and the old river market lie on the bluffs above the water, and from there the street grid stretches south for kilometres. Winding through the grid is a system of parkways and boulevards laid out in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, linking large parks and giving the city a softer pattern than a typical grid.
The city is known as the City of Fountains, with more public fountains than almost any other. It is also famous for its barbecue and for its jazz tradition, centred on the 18th and Vine district, where musicians such as Count Basie and Charlie Parker played. The state line runs along its western edge, and Kansas City, Kansas lies just across it.
A Kansas City map poster shows the confluence of the rivers, the dense downtown grid and the curving boulevards running south. The contrast between the straight streets and the flowing parkways gives the map its character. The rivers, bending around the north side of the city, provide a strong natural border that anchors the composition.

The central business district and the river market form a dense grid on the bluffs above the river, the most detailed part of the map.
