Te mapa
Lincoln is laid out on the open plains of south-eastern Nebraska, and its map shows this plainly. Numbered streets run north to south, lettered streets run east to west, and O Street cuts a long, straight line across the city. Salt Creek and its tributaries are the main break in this order, winding diagonally through the northern and western edges.
At the heart of the grid stands the Nebraska State Capitol, whose tall limestone tower can be seen for miles across the flat land around it. Just north, the University of Nebraska campus opens into irregular quads and the oval of Memorial Stadium. The old brick warehouses of the Haymarket sit beside the rail lines to the west.
Further out, the grid loosens into curving subdivisions, parks and reservoirs such as Holmes Lake in the south-east. A Lincoln map poster shows a city that has grown steadily outward from a clear civic centre. State government, the flagship university and a long college football tradition all sit within a few blocks of each other.
The State Capitol fills a full city block where major axes meet, and Centennial Mall leads north toward the university. On paper it reads as the fixed point from which the whole grid is measured.
Lincoln's street names work like coordinates. Numbers count eastward and letters of the alphabet count northward. The result is an unusually clean grid that gives the poster a calm, almost diagrammatic rhythm.
The creek crosses the grid at awkward diagonal angles. Along the edge of downtown it carries its own green margin of levees, rail lines and floodplain.

Koteā ko Lincoln
Lincoln is often hung by people who spent four years there: students, alumni, and fans who know the Saturday walk from campus to the stadium. A map of the grid holds those routes precisely. A graduation year or game date in the subtitle turns it into a personal record.
