Kānt is a town in Shahjahanpur district, in Uttar Pradesh, on the broad alluvial plain of northern India. The land here is almost perfectly flat. It is divided into fields, orchards and village tracts, and the town forms a denser patch where several roads meet.
From above, the centre is a close weave of lanes and small plots. It loosens into larger compounds and farmland toward the edges. There are no hills to bend the streets, so the shape of Kānt comes from its roads and from the gradual accretion of houses along them, a pattern common to many market towns across the plain.
