Te mapa
Kartasura, in Central Java's Sukoharjo Regency, lies just west of Surakarta (Solo). From above, it sits at a major junction where the roads from Solo toward Semarang and toward Yogyakarta divide, and the town has grown around this crossing. Dense neighbourhoods fill the land between the routes, and the urban area now merges almost seamlessly with Solo to the east.
Kartasura has a significant past. From the late seventeenth century it was the royal capital of the Mataram Sultanate, until the court was damaged during the conflicts of the early 1740s and moved to Surakarta. Parts of the old palace walls still survive, and the former royal site is visible on the map as a distinct enclosed area among the streets.
A Kartasura map poster captures both layers: the busy junction of modern roads and the remains of a royal city. The strong lines of the main routes contrast with the dense neighbourhood streets, while the old palace area adds a quieter, historic centre to the composition.
The routes from Solo towards Semarang and Yogyakarta divide here, and their strong lines shape the entire structure of the town.
Remains of the old Mataram palace walls survive, marking an enclosed historic area that stands out among the surrounding streets.
To the east, Kartasura merges into the urban fabric of Surakarta, so the map shows a continuous pattern of dense Javanese neighbourhoods.
