Karukh Map Poster & Print
Karukh is a town and district in Herat province, in western Afghanistan, north-east of the city of Herat. It lies where the fertile lands of the Hari Rud basin meet rising, drier hill country, and the settlement pattern reflects that meeting point between cultivated ground and open slopes.
From above, the town is a compact group of lanes and walled compounds, with orchards and fields threaded through and around it. Water channels and field boundaries give the nearby land a fine, irregular texture, while roads lead out toward Herat and into the surrounding district, crossing increasingly open ground as they go.
