Te mapa
Katowice is the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship and the centre of one of Europe's largest urban areas, a chain of former mining towns in southern Poland. For much of its history it was defined by coal and steel, and its map still shows that past: railway lines, former mine sites and industrial estates run between the residential districts.
The centre combines a nineteenth-century grid around the market square with modernist landmarks, most famously the Spodek, a saucer-shaped arena from the 1970s. Nearby, the former Katowice coal mine has become a cultural zone that includes the Silesian Museum, built largely underground, and a concert hall for the national radio orchestra. Large parks and forests break the city into distinct districts.
In the southeast lies Nikiszowiec, an early twentieth-century workers' estate of red-brick blocks arranged around courtyards, one of the most distinctive patterns anywhere on the map. A Katowice map poster shows how industry shaped the city and how the city now reuses that industrial past, with rail and roads, green spaces and old estates all visible at once.
East of the centre, the round arena and the museum and concert hall on the former mine site form a clear cluster of unusual shapes on the map.
The workers' estate forms a compact grid of rectangular blocks with inner courtyards, a strikingly geometric pattern that stands out among the looser streets around it.
Railway lines thread through the city, while large forests to the south and the Silesian Park to the northwest give the composition wide areas of calm.

Koteā ko Katowice
Katowice appeals to people with roots in Silesia, to admirers of industrial and modernist architecture, and to visitors who came for concerts or conferences. Its map has an honest, graphic quality that suits a studio or office wall.
You can change the title, add a subtitle such as a district or a date, and edit the coordinates line. Noir and Blueprint suit its industrial character, Paper softens it, and all five styles come in six print sizes.
