Tychy Map Poster
Tychy is one of Poland's clearest examples of a planned town. Built largely from the 1950s onward as a new city for the Upper Silesian industrial region, it was organised into housing estates designated by letters of the alphabet. From above, these estates appear as distinct clusters of apartment blocks separated by green space and wide roads.
The older town and the Tyskie brewery, whose history reaches back centuries, sit alongside the modern districts. To the south, Paprocany Lake and large stretches of forest give the city an unusual amount of green for a Silesian industrial centre, and they are popular with residents for walking and cycling.

A large lake on the southern edge of the city adds a smooth, irregular shape of open water, framed by forest and footpaths along its shore.

Wide, straight roads connect the estates and lead north toward the Katowice area, forming a clear framework that ties the whole town together.
