Kendrāparha lies in the Mahanadi delta in eastern Odisha, on low, flat land cut by river branches and channels on their way to the Bay of Bengal. On a map the water sets the pattern: curving channels frame the town and bend through the surrounding fields, and roads often follow the embankments beside them.
The centre is a dense cluster of lanes, with the Baladevjew temple, the town's best-known shrine, at its heart. The surrounding district is sometimes called Tulasi Kshetra. Beyond the edges of town, villages sit along raised ground among paddy fields, forming a scattered, repeating pattern.
