Kharakvasla Map Poster & Print
Kharakvasla, usually spelled Khadakwasla, lies on the southwestern edge of Pune in Maharashtra. Its map is dominated by water. The Khadakwasla Dam on the Mutha River holds back a long reservoir that winds between hills, and much of the settlement sits along its shores. The dam has been one of Pune's main sources of water since the late nineteenth century.
The National Defence Academy, where officer cadets of India's three armed services train together, occupies a large campus beside the reservoir, and its open grounds are clearly visible on the map. To the south, the hill fort of Sinhagad rises above the valley and draws crowds at weekends. Residential areas have grown quickly as Pune's suburbs reach toward the lake.

Hills toward Sinhagad
South of the reservoir the ground rises toward the old hill fort. Winding ghat roads and steep slopes give that side of the map a dense, organic texture.
