Te mapa
Kiambu lies just north of Nairobi, in the highlands that rise toward the Aberdare range. The landscape is made of ridges and valleys, and the town sits on higher ground, with roads following the crests and dropping into the folds of land between them. From above, the pattern is organic, shaped far more by terrain than by any planned grid.
The area has long been known for agriculture, especially coffee, and large estates with neat rows of bushes cover many of the surrounding slopes, with tea grown further up in the highlands. Small streams run through the valleys toward Nairobi. As the capital has grown, new housing has spread along the main roads, bringing Kiambu closer to the city's edge each year.
A Kiambu map poster shows the meeting of town, farmland and a fast-growing metropolitan fringe. In black and white, the curving roads and valley streams form flowing lines, and the estates create areas of quiet space between them. It is a green place translated into a restrained, graphic image.
Main routes follow the high ground between valleys, curving with the landscape and giving the map long, gently winding lines instead of a strict grid.
Large plantations cover the slopes around town, appearing on the poster as broad open parcels bordered by farm tracks and small roads.
Streams run through the folds between ridges, their narrow, curving courses adding fine detail and marking the lower ground below the town.
