Kichha lies in Udham Singh Nagar district, in the Terai belt of southern Uttarakhand, close to the Uttar Pradesh border. The land is flat and fertile, and from above the town appears as a compact built-up area with roads leading out across a wide expanse of cultivated fields.
The Terai was once a band of forest and grassland below the Himalayan foothills. Over the last century much of it was converted to intensive farming, and sugarcane, rice and wheat now dominate. Kichha has grown as a market and processing centre for this agricultural region.
