Te mapa
Kiryū sits at the northern edge of the Kantō plain in Gunma Prefecture, where the mountains meet the flat land. From above, the city is pressed into the space where two rivers leave the hills, the Watarase and the Kiryu. The centre fills the flat ground between them, while forested ridges close in from the north.
For centuries Kiryū was one of Japan's main silk-weaving centres, and an old saying paired it with Kyoto's Nishijin district. Parts of the central district still keep old merchant houses and sawtooth-roofed weaving mills along narrow streets. On the map this area appears as a fine, tightly woven grid next to the broader modern roads.
A Kiryū map poster captures the moment where the plain gives way to the mountains. The northern half is mostly bare slopes and valley roads, the southern half is dense streets and rail lines, and the two rivers run through the frame like lines of thread.
The Watarase and Kiryu rivers frame the city centre and run out onto the plain, forming the two strongest curves on the poster.
The historic textile quarter shows as a tight, regular block pattern, where old mills and merchant houses still line narrow streets.
Forested ridges rise sharply to the north, and roads follow narrow valleys into them, leaving large quiet areas on the upper part of the map.

Koteā ko Kiryū
Kiryū appeals to textile lovers, people interested in Japanese industrial heritage and anyone with ties to Gunma. The sharp line between plain and mountains gives the map a clear structure that looks good at any size.
