Te mapa
Kom Ombo sits on the east bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt, north of Aswan. From above, the landscape is a sequence of strips: the river, a band of farmland crossed by canals and field boundaries, the town itself and then the desert. The streets are compact at the centre and loosen into village clusters among the surrounding fields.
The town is best known for the Temple of Kom Ombo, a Ptolemaic-era temple on a rise above the river. Its doubled plan is unusual, with two parallel sanctuaries: one for the crocodile god Sobek and one for the falcon god Haroeris. Around the modern town, sugarcane covers much of the valley floor and supplies a large sugar factory.
A Kom Ombo map poster brings out the geometry of a farming valley. The broad line of the river, the fine mesh of canals and field roads, and the clear edge where green land gives way to sand all translate well into black and white. It is a quiet, graphic portrait of a place that water has shaped for thousands of years.
The temple stands directly beside the Nile. Its small rectangular footprint marks one of the oldest points of settlement on the map.
Irrigation canals and field roads cross the valley floor in a fine, repeating pattern. These are the lines that keep the sugarcane farms around the town supplied with water.
To the east the farmland stops abruptly and the desert begins. On the poster this edge forms a clear boundary between dense detail and empty space.

Koteā ko Kom Ombo
The map suits travellers who stopped here on a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, and families from Kom Ombo and the villages around it. It recalls the river and the temple in a calm, modern form.
