Kora Map Poster & Print
Kora lies in the Western Province of Rwanda, in the high country between the volcanic north and the shores of Lake Kivu. This is a landscape of steep hills and deep valleys, heavily farmed, with small plots of land stepping down the slopes. Settlements here tend to be spread out rather than compact.
On a map, that shows as a network of roads and paths following ridges and valley floors, with houses scattered along them. There is little that looks like a grid. Instead, lines curve and branch as they adapt to the hills, which is typical of the countryside that gives Rwanda its nickname, the land of a thousand hills.
A Kora map poster is therefore an image of terrain as much as of settlement. The winding lines carry the character of the place, and the open spaces between them suggest the fields and slopes. It is a calm, organic print, very different from a city plan.
