Te mapa
Kula lies in the western Anatolian interior, in the province of Manisa. The town sits on sloping ground, and its older quarters form a tangle of narrow, irregular lanes. Newer streets stretch out along the main roads. Around it, the landscape is shaped by one of Turkey's youngest volcanic fields.
The Kula volcanic area is a UNESCO Global Geopark, with cinder cones, lava flows and fossilised footprints preserved in volcanic ash. The town is also known for its historic Ottoman houses, many with timber-framed upper floors, and for the Kula carpets once woven here and sold far beyond the region.
A Kula map poster sets the dense fabric of the old town against a wider, starker landscape. Winding lanes fill the centre, straight roads cross the plain, and hills and craters shape the edges. The result is a map with both texture and a strong geological backdrop.
The historic district is a close network of narrow, winding streets lined with Ottoman-era houses. On the poster it is the densest, most intricate part of the town.
Around Kula, cinder cones and lava fields form part of a UNESCO geopark. Their rounded forms and rough ground give the outskirts of the map an unusual character.
The highway crossing the region passes by the town, and newer districts have grown up along it. It gives the map a clean, straight line against the irregular old centre.
