Te mapa
La Orilla lies on the Pacific coast of Michoacán, near the mouth of the Río Balsas on the border with Guerrero, and belongs to the urban area around the port city of Lázaro Cárdenas. On a map it is a grid of residential blocks on flat ground beside the water, with the larger city and its port infrastructure close by.
The Balsas is one of Mexico's longest rivers. Near its end it splits into channels around islands before reaching the ocean. Dams upstream, including La Villita, supply power and water to the region, and the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, built on land in the delta, has grown into one of the country's major container harbours.
A La Orilla map poster combines three very different textures: the regular blocks of the town, the soft, branching forms of river channels, and the long, clean line of the Pacific shore. A wider frame brings in the geometric docks and basins of the port, which contrast sharply with the natural shapes of the delta.
The river divides into channels around low islands as it nears the sea and draws flowing, branching forms across the map.
The town's blocks follow a fairly regular layout on flat land beside the water, a steady pattern set against the curves of the river.
Nearby docks, basins and industrial sites appear as large, precise geometric shapes, an engineered counterpoint to the delta's natural outlines.

Koteā ko La Orilla
Many families in La Orilla have ties to the port, the steel industry or the fishing that shaped the coast. A map of the town and the river mouth records that connection simply, for a home in Michoacán or for relatives living far away.
