Te mapa
Lagoa do Itaenga is a municipality in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco, the band of once-forested, now largely cultivated land between the coast and the drier interior. The town lies inland from Recife, and from above its streets follow the shape of the ground, filling valleys and wrapping around low hills rather than spreading on a flat grid.
The land around it has long been used for sugar cane, and the map reflects a rural setting with roads and tracks running between fields and small settlements. Watercourses thread through the lower ground. The built area is compact, with a central zone of denser streets and a looser fringe where the town meets the countryside.
A Lagoa do Itaenga map poster offers a simple, personal view of a place rarely seen in print. It shows the main streets and the way the town fits itself into the hills of the Zona da Mata, and in a minimalist style that relationship between the settlement and the land becomes clear and quietly striking.
Streets bend to follow the undulating terrain of the Zona da Mata, giving the town an organic outline instead of a strict grid, with denser blocks in the centre.
The surrounding countryside is agricultural, traditionally dominated by sugar cane, with rural roads connecting fields, farms and small communities around the town.
Small rivers and streams run through the lower ground, drawing fine lines across the map and influencing where roads and houses have been placed.
