Te mapa
Livingston was designated a new town in 1962, built around older villages in West Lothian between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Its map looks nothing like a traditional Scottish burgh. Instead of a high street radiating outwards, it has a network of distributor roads and roundabouts enclosing self-contained neighbourhoods, each filled with curving streets and cul-de-sacs that rarely connect directly to the next.
The River Almond winds through the middle of the town, and much of its course is lined with parkland and paths, so a green ribbon runs across the plan. The original Livingston Village survives within the new town, its older, irregular streets a small counterpoint to the planned layout around it.
At the centre sits the large Almondvale shopping and civic area, surrounded by car parks and ring roads, and the M8 motorway passes to the north. A Livingston map poster shows all of this with unusual clarity: modern planning drawn as elegant loops and lobes, a pattern that looks almost like a diagram once reduced to black lines.
Main roads curve around whole neighbourhoods and meet at roundabouts, creating large rounded cells that give the map its distinctive new town structure.
The River Almond meanders through the town with parkland on both banks, forming a continuous open strip across the dense residential pattern.
The historic village that predates the new town keeps its older street pattern, a small irregular pocket inside the planned layout.

Koteā ko Livingston
Livingston is home to many people who grew up with its roundabouts, walkways and river paths, and its layout is instantly recognisable to anyone who has driven through it. As a poster, the planned loops become something close to abstract art.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download covers six sizes including A3, A2 and 50×70 cm, and printed posters come on matte paper with an optional wooden frame.
