Lormont sits on the right bank of the Garonne, just downstream from central Bordeaux. From above, the town is shaped by its hills. The old village and its streets cling to the slope above the river, larger residential districts spread across the plateau behind, and the curve of the Garonne defines the entire western edge.
The Pont d'Aquitaine, the large suspension bridge that carries the Bordeaux ring road across the river, lands in Lormont. It is one of the most recognisable structures in the metropolitan area. The town also has a medieval castle once linked to the archbishops of Bordeaux, and wooded parks along the hillside.
