Te mapa
Lüshun sits at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, now a district of Dalian, where the Bohai Sea meets the Yellow Sea. Its map is dominated by the harbour: a nearly enclosed basin of water reached through a narrow entrance between two headlands, with the town wrapped around it and steep hills rising on every side.
That natural fortress explains the place's history. Known internationally as Port Arthur, it was leased by Russia in the late nineteenth century and besieged by Japan in 1904 and 1905 during the Russo-Japanese War. Fortifications and memorials from the siege survive on the surrounding heights, among them Hill 203 and the tower on Baiyu Mountain.
Lüshun remains an important naval port, and the street pattern shows several eras side by side, from older quarters near the water to later planned districts. A Lüshun map poster brings out the drama of the setting: the hooked shoreline, the hills pressing close to the harbour and the thin gap to the open sea.
The inner harbour forms a protected basin almost surrounded by land, the visual centre of the map and the reason the port was so fiercely contested.
A slim channel between two headlands connects the harbour to the sea, a tiny gap in the coastline that reads clearly even at the smallest print sizes.
Hills close around the town on the landward side, including Hill 203 and Baiyu Mountain, their roads and paths winding up from the streets below.

Koteā ko Lüshun
Lüshun appeals to anyone interested in naval and military history, and to people from Dalian who know the old port well. Give the poster a title of your own, add a date or a short line as the subtitle, and keep or change the coordinates.
The dramatic coastline suits Blueprint and Noir particularly well, while Classic black & white, Paper and Sand give a quieter, more classical look. Order a matte print with an optional wooden frame, or download the $9 HD files in six sizes.
