Te mapa
Mahemdāvād, also written Mehmedabad, is a town in Kheda district in central Gujarat, between Ahmedabad and Nadiad. It stands beside the Vatrak river, and the river's course is the clearest natural line on the map, with the town's older quarters pressed toward one bank and newer streets spreading away from it across level ground.
The town is traditionally associated with Mahmud Begada, the fifteenth-century Sultan of Gujarat, after whom it is named. Monuments from that period survive, including a stepped well and a mausoleum, and their presence gives the older part of town a layered, irregular street plan quite different from the more orderly extensions that have grown up around it.
A Mahemdāvād map poster shows all of this with restraint: the curving river, the dense historic core, and the railway and roads that tie the town to the Ahmedabad region. For people from Kheda district, or anyone who knows the town well, it is a simple and honest portrait of a familiar place.
The river curves past the town and dominates the map's natural geography, its wide bed forming a soft, pale band against the tighter pattern of streets.
Near the river the older quarter shows as a close, irregular weave of lanes, the part of the town most shaped by its Sultanate-era origins.
The main railway between Ahmedabad and Vadodara passes the town, and its straight line cuts cleanly across the sheet alongside the principal roads.
