A single long ridge
The island's high ground runs almost its full length, so the outline reads as one continuous stroke, a narrow shape that suits tall portrait frames particularly well.

Te mapa
Makronisos lies in the Aegean a short distance off Lavrio, at the southeastern tip of Attica, and its name simply means long island. On a map it is exactly that: a narrow sliver running roughly north to south for more than ten kilometres, only a narrow strip wide, with a dry rocky spine and very few sheltered landings.
The island is uninhabited today, and that shows in the drawing: almost no roads, a handful of tracks and ruins, and a clean coastline against open water. The channel between Makronisos and the mainland is narrow, so Lavrio's harbour and streets often sit in the same frame, a dense edge facing an empty one.
Its emptiness carries weight. From the late 1940s into the 1950s Makronisos held camps where thousands of political prisoners and conscripts were detained during and after the Greek Civil War, and it is now a protected historic site. A Makronisos map poster keeps that story in a quiet form: an outline, a strait and a name.
The island's high ground runs almost its full length, so the outline reads as one continuous stroke, a narrow shape that suits tall portrait frames particularly well.
A narrow channel separates the island from the mainland port of Lavrio, whose streets and quays form a busy counterpoint to the bare land opposite.
With no permanent settlement, the shoreline is drawn without piers or promenades, only rocky edges and small coves, which gives the map an unusually clean and austere line.

Koteā ko Makronisos
Some hang Makronisos as an act of memory, for a relative who was held there or as a reminder of a difficult chapter in modern Greek history. Others respond simply to its form, a single spare line laid across a wide sea.
The title and subtitle can be written as you wish, with a date or the coordinates line beneath. Five styles are available, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand; Noir and Paper tend to suit its restrained, commemorative character.
