Te mapa
Manafwa is a town in eastern Uganda, on the lower slopes of Mount Elgon near the border with Kenya. The Manafwa River, which gives the town and district its name, flows down from the mountain through this area. The slopes of Elgon are known for their fertile volcanic soils, and the region is one of Uganda's main areas for growing arabica coffee.
On a map the land is clearly on a slope. Roads follow the valleys and wind across the hillsides, and small settlements are spread among farms and coffee gardens. The town centre gathers around its main roads, and the drainage pattern of streams running down from the mountain gives the wider map a directional feel, with lines descending toward the lowlands.
A Manafwa map poster shows a place shaped by a mountain and a river. The curving roads and the lines of streams make a composition with a natural flow. It suits people with roots in the Elgon region, as well as anyone who has lived, worked or travelled in eastern Uganda.
The river descends from Mount Elgon through the area. On the poster its course is a long, irregular line that ties the landscape together.
The land drops steadily from the mountain toward the plains. Roads bend across the gradient, and the map clearly shows how the terrain shapes the routes.
Small roads and paths lead between coffee gardens, fields and homes. Their fine lines fill the space around the town with an even, detailed texture.

Koteā ko Manafwa
For many people from Manafwa, home means the mountain, the river and the family land on the slope. A map poster keeps that geography close wherever they now live.
