Te mapa
Marfil is a locality just outside the city of Guanajuato in central Mexico, set along the course of the Guanajuato river as it leaves the steep mining district. On a map it forms a long, narrow shape, with streets following the canyon floor and tucked into side valleys, and hills pressing close on either side.
During the colonial period, the valley was lined with haciendas where silver ore from the nearby mines was processed. Many of those estates survive as ex-haciendas, some converted into homes, hotels or event venues. Over time, Marfil became a residential area connected to the city by road, with newer neighbourhoods on the slopes.
A Marfil map poster shows how landscape determines everything here. The main road and the river corridor draw a strong diagonal, while side streets climb the hills in short, winding branches. It is an unusual subject, well suited to someone who knows Guanajuato beyond its postcard centre.
The main road and river channel follow the valley floor, a long line that sets the direction for the whole settlement.
Large estate plots along the valley, remnants of silver processing, appear as broad, quiet shapes among smaller residential lots.
Newer neighbourhoods climb the slopes in winding streets and dead ends, adding fine detail to the edges of the map.
