Martigues sits on the Caronte channel, the narrow waterway that connects the Étang de Berre, a large saltwater lagoon, to the Mediterranean. The town grew from three separate settlements, Jonquières, L'Île and Ferrières, which were joined in the sixteenth century. Canals and bridges still tie them together, and the result is one of the most distinctive waterfront plans in Provence.
The central island quarter is crossed by canals lined with colourful houses, and the view along the Miroir aux Oiseaux is one of the reasons Martigues is often called the Venice of Provence. To the west, a tall motorway viaduct and a railway bridge span the Caronte channel, two strong lines crossing the water.
The municipality reaches south to the Côte Bleue, a stretch of rocky coast with small coves. A Martigues map poster brings together all of these elements: the lagoon, the channel, the island and its canals, and the Mediterranean shoreline beyond.

A high motorway viaduct and a railway bridge cross the Caronte channel west of the centre, two long straight lines over open water.
The large lagoon opens to the north and east of town, a wide expanse of white space that frames the dense streets along its shore.

Koteā ko Martigues
Martigues is a place people remember for its light, its canals and summer days on the Côte Bleue. A map of the town makes a good keepsake of a holiday, a wedding, or a family home, with a date or name added to the title.
Blueprint fits a town so defined by water, and Sand suits the warm stone of Provence. Classic black and white, Noir and Paper are also available, and the coordinates line can be set to the town centre or a specific spot.
