Te mapa
Marvdasht spreads across the plain of the same name in Fars province, north of Shiraz, a wide, flat basin ringed by bare mountains. From above, the city is a fairly regular grid of long streets and walled plots, with a clear main avenue and irrigated farmland pressing in on every side. The pattern of fields, channels and rural roads extends far beyond the built-up edge.
The plain has been cultivated for millennia, watered by the Kor River, and it holds some of Iran's most important archaeological sites. Persepolis, the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire, stands at the foot of the mountains north-east of the city, and nearby Naqsh-e Rostam preserves royal tombs cut into a cliff face. Marvdasht itself is a modern centre of agriculture and industry.
A Marvdasht map poster connects the everyday grid of a working city with one of the most famous landscapes of the ancient world. In black and white, the long straight roads, the field boundaries and the edge of the mountains form a restrained, almost architectural composition.
The city's main streets run in long, straight lines across the flat ground, with a regular grid of blocks between them that keeps the plan clear even at small sizes.
Around the city, irrigated farmland forms a fine patchwork of plots, channels and farm tracks that fills the space between the urban edge and the mountains.
A road leads north-east from the city toward Persepolis, whose terraced platform sits against the slope of Kuh-e Rahmat at the edge of the plain.
