Shahr-e Ṣadrā is a new town built on the higher ground north-west of Shiraz. It was created to take some of the pressure off the growing city. It does not look like an old Persian town on a map. There is no winding bazaar core. Instead there are broad, planned avenues, geometric neighbourhoods and open land still waiting to be built on.
The town sits across uneven terrain, and the plan responds to it. Some roads curve along the contours, while others run straight across the flatter plateaus. The residential phases appear as separate blocks of development. Main routes link the town down to Shiraz and the valleys below.
