Te mapa
Matosinhos lies on the Atlantic coast just north of Porto, where the Leça river reaches the sea. From above, the city is defined by its waterfront. There are the broad breakwaters of the port of Leixões, a long sandy beach running south, and a dense grid of streets behind it that runs straight into Porto's northern neighbourhoods.
Leixões is one of the largest seaports in Portugal, and its basins and piers take up the northern part of the map. The Leça river separates Matosinhos from Leça da Palmeira, with bridges across its narrow mouth, and the coast beyond is lined with rocks and beaches. The harbour and the river give the poster strong, recognisable outlines.
The city is famous for its fish restaurants and grilled seafood. It is also known for the work of the architect Álvaro Siza, whose ocean swimming pools and Boa Nova tea house sit on the rocks at Leça da Palmeira. A Matosinhos map poster captures a place shaped by the sea, from the working harbour to the quiet seafront promenade.
Breakwaters, docks and basins form a strong geometric shape at the mouth of the Leça. It is the most striking feature on the map of the city.
A long beach runs south toward Porto, and a rocky coast continues north past Leça da Palmeira. Together they give the poster a clear western edge.
The river runs between Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira before meeting the harbour. Near the sea it is a narrow line of water crossed by bridges.
