Te mapa
Meskiana is a town in Oum El Bouaghi province in northeastern Algeria, on the high plateaus between the Tell Atlas and the Saharan Atlas. This is steppe and dry farming country. Wide, gently rolling land is planted with cereals and used for grazing, with low ridges on the horizon and settlements spaced far apart along the main roads.
The town takes its name from the Oued Meskiana, a watercourse that crosses the area and flows only part of the year. From above, the town forms a compact grid of streets with newer housing districts extending across the flat ground at its edges. The main roads leave it in straight lines toward neighbouring towns in the eastern high plains.
A Meskiana map poster reflects the openness of the high plateaus. A dense town sits in the middle, the wadi traces a thin, irregular line nearby, and the rest of the sheet is broad, quiet land crossed by roads and field tracks. It is a sparse, calm image that suits anyone from this part of eastern Algeria.
The seasonal watercourse that gives the town its name crosses the plain nearby, drawn as a thin, winding natural line against the straight roads.
The town forms a tight, mostly regular block of streets, with newer districts extending outward on the flat ground around the older centre.
Long, straight roads cross the open farmland toward neighbouring towns, leaving wide empty spaces that give the poster its sense of scale.
