Te mapa
Monterey Park lies just east of downtown Los Angeles, in the western San Gabriel Valley. The map is uneven: flat, regular blocks in the north give way to the curving streets of the hills to the south, where roads follow the contours around ridges and small canyons. Garvey Reservoir sits among the hillside streets.
Two freeways shape the city. Interstate 10 crosses the northern part, and State Route 60 runs along the southern side, both carrying traffic between downtown and the eastern suburbs. East Los Angeles College lies on the city's western edge, and wide commercial boulevards such as Garvey Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard divide the residential areas.
Monterey Park became known in the 1980s as the first suburban Chinatown in the United States, and Chinese and other Asian American communities still define its restaurants and shopping streets. A Monterey Park map poster records that story through its layout: an ordinary postwar suburb that became a regional centre.
In the south, streets bend around hilltops and ravines, a looser, contour-following pattern that contrasts sharply with the grid of the flatter northern neighbourhoods.
Interstate 10 and State Route 60 cross the city from east to west. Their broad lines and interchanges divide the map into distinct bands.
The reservoir sits on high ground among residential streets, a geometric shape that stands out in the hilly southern half of the city.
