Te mapa
Moroleón lies in the south of Guanajuato, near the border with Michoacán, in a valley surrounded by low hills. On a map it is hard to see where it ends, because its streets run straight into those of neighbouring Uriangato, forming a single continuous urban area. The historic centre is a traditional grid around a main square and parish church.
The town is known across Mexico for textiles and clothing. Workshops, factories and wholesale markets fill many of its streets, and buyers come from far away to purchase clothes by the dozen. The garment trade has shaped the town's growth, with commercial streets reaching out from the centre towards the main roads.
A Moroleón map poster shows two towns joined into one, with the regular colonial grid in the centre and newer neighbourhoods spreading along the valley. South of town lies Lake Cuitzeo, one of the largest lakes in Mexico. In black and white, the density of the streets comes through clearly, a picture of a place built on work.
Moroleón's streets run continuously into Uriangato, so the map shows a single urban area built from two neighbouring towns.
The historic centre follows a regular grid around the main square and church, the most orderly part of the drawing.
Commercial streets lined with clothing shops and markets extend from the centre, forming the busiest routes through town.
