Te mapa
Nanyang sits in the southwest of Henan, in a wide basin enclosed by the Funiu Mountains to the north and lower hills to the east and south. The basin floor is flat and open, so the city spreads freely across it, and the main natural feature on the map is the Bai River, which curves through the urban area in a broad, calm channel crossed by several bridges.
Through the city the Bai River has been widened and landscaped, and its broad surface and riverside parks form a long pale band on the map. On either side, the older centre and newer districts spread in fairly regular blocks, crossed by rail lines and wide avenues that mark each stage of the city's growth across the plain.
Nanyang is linked with several of China's best-known historical figures. The astronomer Zhang Heng, who designed an early seismoscope, and the physician Zhang Zhongjing both came from the area, and Wolonggang, on the city's western side, is associated with the strategist Zhuge Liang. A Nanyang map poster sets these places within the basin, with the river as its spine.
The river runs through the city in a wide, smooth curve, its broad surface and parkland creating the strongest single shape on the poster.
On the western side, the low rise linked with Zhuge Liang stands out as a small green area among the surrounding streets and newer districts.
Across the flat basin floor, streets and rail lines spread in long, straight runs, giving the newer districts an even, open texture.
