Te mapa
Nioro, often called Nioro du Sahel, lies in the Kayes region of western Mali, not far from the border with Mauritania. It sits in the Sahel belt, where the land turns semi-arid and the horizon is flat in every direction. The town has long served as a meeting point for herders, traders and travellers moving between the two countries.
On the map the town is compact, with a mesh of unpaved streets around its central quarters and roads radiating outward across open ground. There are no rivers or coastlines to shape it, so the pattern of lanes and compounds carries the whole composition. Nioro is also widely known as an important religious centre in the region.
A Nioro map poster turns that restraint into a strength. Printed in black and white, the fine texture of the streets stands out against the surrounding emptiness, giving a quiet and honest picture of a Sahel town and its setting.
The older quarters form a tight weave of narrow lanes and compounds, the most detailed part of the map and the natural centre of the composition.
Tracks and roads leave town in several directions across the plain, drawing long lines toward neighbouring settlements and the nearby Mauritanian border.
With no major water or relief nearby, the land around the town is almost blank on the map, which gives the street pattern a strong, graphic outline.
