Nookat is a town in the Osh Region of southern Kyrgyzstan and the administrative centre of the district of the same name. It lies on the southern rim of the Fergana Valley, where the flat valley floor begins to rise toward the foothills of the Alay range. From above, the town is a mix of straight streets and enclosed household plots, many with gardens and fruit trees.
Irrigation channels thread through the town and the surrounding farmland, carrying water from mountain streams to fields and orchards. The result is a fine, green-edged pattern of plots that reads beautifully as linework. To the south the terrain becomes steeper and emptier, so on a wider map the settled area sits as a dense band below open, rising ground.
