Te mapa
Nouadhibou lies on the Ras Nouadhibou peninsula, a long, thin finger of desert land that points south into the Atlantic along the Mauritanian coast and ends at Cap Blanc. The peninsula is shared with Western Sahara, whose side lies to the west. The city occupies the eastern shore, facing the calm waters of the Baie du Lévrier. On a map, land and sea form strikingly clean shapes.
The city is Mauritania's economic capital and its main fishing port, supported by the productive waters offshore. Further south on the peninsula are the port of Cansado and the mineral terminal. Iron ore trains arrive there from the mines of Zouérat after a journey of more than 600 kilometres across the Sahara, and they are among the longest and heaviest trains in the world.
The bay near the city was long known for its ship graveyard, where hundreds of abandoned vessels lay in the shallow water, although many have since been removed. A Nouadhibou map poster shows the peninsula, the bay and the city's straight streets in one view, with the desert on one side and the sea on the other.
The long, narrow peninsula runs south into the Atlantic and ends at Cap Blanc. It gives the map a bold, simple outline of land between two bodies of water.
The sheltered bay on the eastern side of the peninsula holds the fishing port and the city waterfront. Its smooth curve frames the whole urban area.
The line from the Zouérat mines ends at the mineral port south of the city. It is a long, straight track across the desert that carries some of the world's longest trains.

Koteā ko Nouadhibou
Nouadhibou is a place of fishing, trade and passage between the Maghreb and West Africa, and for those who have lived or worked there, the peninsula is an unforgettable shape. Its map is spare and graphic, well suited to a minimalist wall.
You can write your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a date, a name or a line in French. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand in particular echoes the desert setting.
