Te mapa
Novouralsk lies north of Yekaterinburg in the Sverdlovsk region, on the shore of the Verkh-Neyvinsky pond, a large reservoir formed on the Neyva River. The town stretches along the water, with planned residential districts arranged in orderly blocks and broad avenues. Dense forest surrounds the built-up area on most sides, giving the map a clear, contained outline.
Novouralsk is a closed administrative territory, known in Soviet times as Sverdlovsk-44. It was built around a uranium enrichment plant, the Ural Electrochemical Combine, which remains its main enterprise. Access to the town is still restricted, which makes its map one of the few ways many people ever see its layout.
A Novouralsk map poster presents the typical design of a Soviet science and industry town: straight avenues, generous courtyards, parks and an industrial zone kept at a distance from the homes. In black and white, the pond forms a large open shape that balances the regular pattern of the streets.
The large reservoir lies along the town's edge, giving Novouralsk its waterfront and a broad, irregular shoreline that dominates one side of the map.
Residential areas follow a clear Soviet plan, with wide avenues and large blocks of apartment buildings arranged around courtyards and green spaces.
Thick forest surrounds the town, and on the map the streets stop abruptly at its edge, making the outline of the closed town unusually sharp.
