Te mapa
Nusaybin, in Turkey's Mardin Province, lies on the northern edge of the Mesopotamian plain, directly on the border with Syria. Across the frontier sits the Syrian city of Qamishli, and on the map the two form almost a single urban area divided by a straight line. The border here follows the route of the historic Baghdad Railway, which runs along the southern edge of the town.
Nusaybin is the ancient Nisibis, an important city in Roman and Persian times and home to the School of Nisibis, a major centre of Syriac learning. The Church of Mor Yakup, dedicated to Jacob of Nisibis, still stands in the town. The Çağçağ River flows south through the centre towards Syria, and to the north the land rises into the hills of Tur Abdin.
A Nusaybin map poster shows a town shaped by geography and history: a river crossing the plain, a straight border line and a sharp change from flat land to hills. It is a map with a story, clearly readable even in its most minimal form.
The frontier with Syria runs along the railway at the southern edge of town, with Qamishli directly opposite, forming a mirrored urban pattern across the line.
The river flows south through the town towards Syria, a natural line that cuts across the grid and connects the hills to the plain.
To the south lies the open Mesopotamian plain, while the hills of Tur Abdin rise to the north, giving the map a clear division of terrain.
