Te mapa
Oberhausen is in the western Ruhr, and its map carries the traces of heavy industry. The Rhine–Herne Canal and the Emscher run in parallel across the city from east to west, joined by railway lines and motorways that divide the area into distinct districts. The city has no single old centre; instead, several neighbourhoods grew around mines, ironworks and railway stations.
Its best-known landmark is the Gasometer, a former gas holder more than a hundred metres high that now serves as an exhibition space. Next to it, the site of a former steelworks was transformed into the Neue Mitte, with the large CentrO shopping and leisure complex. Since 1954 the city has hosted the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, one of the oldest of its kind.
An Oberhausen map poster shows the strong horizontal bands of water and transport crossing the city, the loops of motorway junctions, and the green spaces that have grown on former industrial sites. It is the portrait of a place remade after coal and steel, with its industrial past still clearly legible in the lines of the map.
The Rhine–Herne Canal and the Emscher run side by side across the city, forming a long, straight watercourse that clearly divides the north from the south.
The former steelworks site near the Gasometer is now the CentrO complex, whose large, clearly defined block and car parks mark the new centre of the city.
Several motorways meet on the edge of the city, and their curving interchanges form some of the most striking geometric shapes on the map.

Koteā ko Oberhausen
Oberhausen means something specific to people from the Ruhr: shifts at the works, Sundays at the canal, a trip up the Gasometer. A map of its industrial lines is a meaningful and unsentimental souvenir.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, whether with a district name, a year or a family name. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Blueprint, as a digital file or a framed print.
