Te mapa
Ol Kalou is the headquarters of Nyandarua County in central Kenya. It sits high on a cool plateau west of the Aberdare Range, at well over two thousand metres above sea level. From above it is a modest town centre of offices, markets and residential blocks, surrounded by a very large expanse of farmland.
The area is known for potatoes, dairy and other highland crops. On the map this shows as long roads and tracks dividing the plateau into farm plots, often in straight lines from land settlement schemes, running out toward scattered homesteads and smaller trading centres.
To the north lies Lake Ol Bolossat, a shallow highland lake and wetland. An Ol Kalou map poster captures an agricultural county seat in its landscape: a small centre, a road network laid over wide plateau country, and plenty of open space.
Government offices, the market and main shopping streets are concentrated in a compact core, which forms the densest cluster of lines on the poster.
Straight farm roads and plot boundaries spread across the plateau, reflecting how the land was divided into smallholdings, and give the map a quiet, rhythmic pattern.
North of town, this shallow lake and its wetlands are the main body of water in the area, drawn as a soft shape against the farmland.
