Te mapa
Omaezaki occupies the tip of Cape Omaezaki in Shizuoka Prefecture, the point where Suruga Bay to the east meets the open Enshū-nada sea to the west. On the map, the land narrows to a blunt point. There are coastlines on two sides, and low plateaus rise inland.
The white lighthouse on the cape is the town's best-known landmark and looks out over one of the windiest stretches of the coast, popular with surfers and windsurfers. Inland, the Makinohara plateau is covered with tea fields, which appear on the map as fine, regular rows. The Hamaoka nuclear power station stands on the shore to the west.
An Omaezaki map poster shows a town framed by the sea. Streets follow the coast and the gentle slopes, while fishing harbours and beaches trace the edge of the land. The cape shape is clear enough to be recognisable even at a glance, which makes it a strong image in black and white.

The uplands inland are covered by tea plantations laid out in long, even rows. They add a fine texture to the map behind the town.
West of the cape, a long, straight sandy shore faces the open Pacific. Its clean line contrasts with the more sheltered, indented side facing Suruga Bay.

Koteā ko Omaezaki
Omaezaki means something to surfers who chase its wind, to families from the Shizuoka coast and to anyone who has stood by the lighthouse at the end of the land. The shape of the cape makes a clear, confident poster.
