Orós Map Poster & Print
Orós is a municipality in the interior of Ceará, in north-eastern Brazil, within the semi-arid sertão. Its map is dominated by water in a dry landscape: the Açude Orós, a large reservoir formed by damming the Jaguaribe River, spreads its many-armed shoreline across the terrain near the town.
The town itself is compact, with a regular grid of streets and a central square, and roads leading out toward other towns in the region. An Orós map poster places this small grid beside the irregular, branching outline of the reservoir, which follows valleys and creates fingers of water reaching into the surrounding land.
The Orós dam was a major infrastructure project, and its construction was marked by a notable failure in 1960 when floodwaters overtopped the unfinished structure. Completed afterwards, the reservoir has become essential for water supply and irrigation in the Jaguaribe valley.
