Te mapa
Seen from above, Ouezzane is a town built on a slope. The old quarter rises up the flank of a mountain on the western edge of the Rif, and its streets follow the contours rather than any grid. Short lanes branch, double back and end abruptly, packing the medina into a dense, fine-grained texture that is quite different from the looser roads of the newer districts spreading below.
The town grew around a zawiya, a religious lodge founded in the seventeenth century by a Sufi sharif, and for generations it was one of the most important spiritual centres in Morocco. Pilgrims still come today. Jewish pilgrims also travel to a revered rabbi's tomb in the countryside nearby, which gives this small place a religious reach far larger than its size.
A Ouezzane map poster shows this tension between hill and settlement very clearly. The oldest part of town is a knot of short, crooked lines, and the modern roads loosen out around it as the ground flattens. Printed in black and white, the town looks almost like a topographic drawing, with the streets themselves standing in for contour lines.
The historic core climbs the hillside in a tight mesh of alleys and stairways, so its streets read as short, broken strokes rather than long continuous lines.
The religious lodge that gave the town its reputation sits within the old fabric, and the surrounding lanes gather around it as the historic centre of gravity.
Beyond the built-up edge the roads thin into winding routes through hills and farmland, framing the town as a compact island on the mountain slope.

Koteā ko Ouezzane
Ouezzane means a great deal to people with family roots in northern Morocco and to those who have made the pilgrimage there. A map of its hillside medina is a quiet, personal way to keep that connection on the wall, without needing a photograph.
You can set your own title and subtitle, such as a family name or the date of a visit, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, depending on the room and the frame you have in mind.
