Te mapa
Ouidah lies on the coast of Benin, west of Cotonou, a few kilometres inland from the Atlantic. On a map the town is a compact mesh of streets, separated from the ocean by a coastal lagoon and a band of low, sandy land. A single road runs south from the town, crosses the lagoon and reaches the beach.
That road is the Route des Esclaves. From the seventeenth to the nineteenth century, Ouidah was one of the main ports of the Atlantic slave trade, and the route ends at the Door of No Return, a memorial on the shore. The town's old Portuguese fort now houses a history museum, and Ouidah is a centre of Vodun, with the Python Temple and an annual festival each January.
An Ouidah map poster shows a town whose layout still reflects that history. You see the old centre, the road to the sea, the lagoon and the straight line of the coast. It is a considered choice for visitors to Benin, members of the African diaspora and anyone for whom the place carries personal meaning.
The road from town to the beach runs for several kilometres to the Door of No Return memorial, and it forms a clear line toward the ocean.
A lagoon separates the town from the shoreline, and it appears on the map as a band of water with irregular, marshy edges.
The ocean shore runs almost straight from east to west along the bottom of the map, giving the composition a firm horizon.

Koteā ko Ouidah
Ouidah is visited for reasons that go beyond tourism: remembrance, heritage, faith and family history. A restrained black-and-white map treats the town with the seriousness it deserves, while still working as a print for the home.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with the date of a visit. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as HD files or a printed poster.
